1 June 2008- The University Sains Malaysia (USM) staff were here in Auckland since 1st of June in their task to encourage PHD students to work with them. We were invited to attend the dinner with Prof Datuk Dzulkifli Abdul Razak who is the Vice Chancellor of Univerisity Sains Malaysia. The event was held in University of Auckland’s iSpace and it started at 8.00pm.
In his introductory speech, Datuk introduced the background of USM and the main reasons that they are visiting Auckland and also other New Zealand cities. He also mentioned the opportunities that one could gain by becoming a USM staff or lecturer in various departments. 75 percent of lecturers in USM have PHDs and USM would want to maintain or increase the percentage in the future by bringing new PHD holders. This goes in line with the long term effort of USM in maintaining their status as being the number one university in Malaysia with reference to the fact that they are highly recognized as a leading research-based university.
After the speech, we had our dinner and also a photography session. Many people took the opportunity during the dinner to discuss with the USM staffs regarding the requirements in working there and many other issues that can be beneficial for the USM staffs and also the PHD students.
