This year, Bersatu Games was held at Palmerston North during our winter break from 5th -9th July 2009. Bersatu Games is a yearly event where all Malaysian Students’ Clubs in New Zealand come together to compete in a variety of sports over a period of four days. The aim of the Bersatu Games is to create a fun, social and multi-racial sporting event with maximum participation from all Malaysian Students’ Clubs in New Zealand. The sports contested were football, sepak takraw, netball, tennis, futsal, badminton, athletics, volleyball, basketball, and handball.
UMNO Auckland sent a contingent consisting of 22 athletes. We managed to clinch fourth place with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Our gold medals came from football, badminton men doubles and tennis men doubles. Athletics delivered one silver and one bronze medal. We added another bronze medal from handball.
Congratulations to all winners and also to all the participants. Thank you for your hardwork during training as well as your high sportsmanship spirit displayed during the games. Hopefully, we will win a lot more medals in the Bersatu Games next year that will be held in Auckland. Looking forward to see a huge turnout from club members for next year’s Bersatu Games.
