Q: Why do we have 2-3 Malaysian clubs in Auckland?
A: Having several clubs in Auckland doesn’t mean that the Malaysian students community are having problems and not united. UMNO Auckland’s slogan itself is “Powered by Unity”. The main reasons are:
- Malaysian students in Auckland could enjoy and have more variety when it comes to activities offered by all the clubs.
- Malaysian students in Auckland could have more opportunity to join any clubs committees and gain an external skill to lead and to handle a small organization besides their academic.
- Malaysian students and clubs in Auckland could obtain more resources in order to hold and organize a bigger event or function together, through out the year.
Q: Is this a political club?
A: NO. This question always arises every year and from time to time. We understand the confusion that occurs in everyone’s minds. We are NOT a political club. Our activities are NOT the same with that of the UMNO party in Malaysia. We will never organize and try to influence you in a political matter in any of our club activities. Our main objective is to serve you and make you feel at home in Auckland. We will help you in any waywhile you are here.
Q: Will I be removed from my scholarship if I join this club?
A: NO. You will not be removed from your scholarship. We are not a political club. As a concrete proof to you, we have been in Auckland since 2004 and none of our members have been removed from their scholarship by joining this club. Plus our club committees are sponsored students too. We are also working very closely with Malaysian Student Department (MSD) in helping Malaysian students in Auckland.
Q: Is this club competing with other Malaysian clubs in Auckland?
A: NO. We are here to give you more chances and opportunities to enjoy your studies in Auckland for the rest of your 2-6 years. You could join as many clubs as you wish and it will not be a problem to us and the same for all other clubs. All Malaysian clubs in Auckland have a good relationship and all the main/big events that reflect our beloved Malaysia will be organized together.
Q: When we registered to this club, are we automatically registered to be UMNO party members in Malaysia?
A: NO. We are asked this question quite often and to explain this:
- This is only a club and your membership is only valid here in Auckland and New Zealand.
- The membership is only valid for 1 year and you will have to register again next year.
- Your information given to us will NEVER be used for any other reason than to help YOU in New Zealand if you had problem here.
