26th September 2009 – An Eid Mubarak celebration was organized for Malaysian students in Auckland. It took place at Fale Pasifika Hall, University of Auckland. The event was collaboration between UMNO Auckland Club, Petronas Scholars Unions in Auckland (PETUNIA) and Unions of Malaysian Students in Auckland (UMSA). Approximately 300 Malaysian students came to celebrate the day with friends.

It was good to see people meet old and made new friends during the event. Mr. Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali, UMNO Auckland President gave out speech to thank the guests who came and also an important message on behalf of the Malaysian Students Department in New Zealand(MSDNZ) who were unable to send a representative to come and celebrate Eid together with the students.

The menu for the day were Lemang, Nasi Impit, Kuah Lontong, Kuah Kacang and Rendang Ayam. Yum!

We would like to thank MSDNZ for their contribution in making this event a success. Credit goes to the organizing committee who worked very hard in preparing the food and the areas for the events to run smoothly.
Hopefully this will be a yearly event celebrated together by all Malaysians in Auckland and New Zealand.

7^th September 2009 – The Auckland Palestine Roadshow which commenced on 15^th August 2009 met its end on the 7^th of September 2009. Thorough out the 3 week period, a lot of activities were done to cultivate the awareness on Palestine issues among Malaysian’s student in Auckland. Auckland Palestine Roadshow also managed to collect NZD10, 000 to be donated towards the Palestine fund.

This is the combine effort of several Malaysian students club in Auckland which consisted of Belia Cergas Auckland (BECA), UMNO Auckland Club, Petronas Unions in Auckland (PETUNIA) and Malaysian Auckland Post-Graduate Students Association (MAPSA).

We have worked together with Aman Palestine which is well known for their great effort and work towards helping our brothers and sisters in Palestine. A representative from Aman Palestine, Dr Zainur Rashid came to New Zealand and gave talks about Palestine and provided us with a lot of information and history about Palestine that were not taken seriously or was not published widely enough. His talks were very effective and informative.

Throughout 3 weeks, activities such as Khat contest, Dessert contest, Garage Sale, Coloring contest, Photography competition and Poem contest were made to encourage the students to get involved in the Roadshow.  There were also talks organized throughout the Roadshow in addressing the issue about Palestine and Islam. Iftar was also held to gather all students and celebrate fasting together in the spirit of Ramadhan. Fund raising and donation activates took placed almost every day as this was one of the objectives of the Roadshow, to collect funds to help the people of Palestine.

There were video and slideshow performances presented during the closing ceremony with the theme of Palestine.

Overall, Auckland Palestine Roadshow 2009 has met its objective in creating awareness among Malaysians regarding Palestine issues and in collecting funds to help our brothers and sisters in Palestine. The fund was handed over to Dr. Zainur Rashid, Aman Palestine Sdn. Bhd. representative during the closing ceremony at the University of Auckland.

Our hope is that the effort made by all the students in Auckland will be blessed by Allah S.W.T.

5^th September 2009 – In the spirit of Ramadhan, UMNO Auckland, together with Belia Cergas Auckland (BECA) and Petronas’s Students Union in Auckland (PETUNIA) organized an Iftar for Malaysian students. The event was held at the University of Auckland.

The event started with students gathering at the venue in the Engineering Building to break the fast with dates and water before performing Magrib prayers.

After the prayers, students moved to the Quad Area to have the dinner prepared by the organizers. The menu that night was Nasi Ayam.  This event was also a ‘potluck’ and many of the students cooked and brought their dishes to be shared with others. There were plenty of food and they were really mouth watering.

After the dinner, everyone took the ablution and performed Isyak prayers at the Tutorial Room in the Engineering Building. We also performed Terawih prayers together after the Isyak prayers.

Solat Hajat was also performed before the end of Terawih prayers to ask Allah S.W.T for forgiveness and help in protecting our county Malaysia with respect to the 52 years of Independence and also to seek for Allah S.W.T.’s help to protect and put an end to the suffering endured by our brothers and sisters in Palestine from the cruelty of the Israel regime, hoping for them to going through Ramadhan in a better condition.

Be there and show your support to this meaningful event. Not only will you be able to enjoy exciting performances but you can also contribute to the less fortunate. A little effort goes a long way. Hope to see you there.

8 August 2009 – UMNO Auckland held a barbeque at the ’Grand Central Apartment Dining Room’ for the UMNO contingent of the Bersatu Games 2009. The objective of this event was to reward all of the effort put it by the contingent during the last Bersatu Games held in Palmerston North besides being a token of appreciation to the winners in the Games.

During the event, our Vice President, Nurhisham Ali, on behalf of UMNO Auckland gave a short speech to all who were present. He congratulated all the winners and thanked everyone for their participation in Bersatu Games 2009. All of the wonderful food was prepared by the UMNO Auckland Committee.

At the end of this event, we had a screening session which displayed athletes in action during the Games. Everyone was very excited to watch these videos as it refreshed their memorable and enjoyable moments in Palmerston North.

The UMNO Auckland team would like to thank all those who attended the “Bersatu 2009 Barbeque”. The event was enjoyable and everyone was satisfied with the food prepared by committee.

15 August 2009 – Auckland proudly welcomed our new Malaysian Students Department Director, Dr. Rosli Mohammed and Education Attache, Pn. Nor Ruzaini Jailani who came to see us during their short visit to Auckland.

There were 200 students who turned up to meet and get to know the new officers who will be our new guardians while we are in New Zealand. The engagement session was held at the Owen G. Glen Building, University of Auckland. It started at 10.30am.

The session started with a speech from Dr. Rosli Muhammed. He shared his experiences in dealing with students and also his experiences as a student. He assured us that he will help us in any way possible if we require any assistance in New Zealand.

Pn. Ruzaini Jailani, in her speech shared her experiences of studying as a student in Canada. There were a lot of similarities between her experiences with most of the students in Auckland. She also stressed the importance of registering under the Malaysian Students Department to make it easier for MSD to help us in the future.

The engagement session ended with a group photo taken. Lunch was provided after the event.

We would like to express thanks to Dr. Rosli Muhammed and Pn. Ruzaini Jailani for their visit and sincerely hope that we could meet them more frequently in the future.

7^th August 2009 – UMNO Auckland was invited to attend Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Charity Golf Event in Perth, Australia. The President of UMNO Auckland, Mr Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali represented Auckland in this occasion.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Charity Golf is a programme organized to tighten the bonds between Malaysian leaders with the Malaysian family, consisting of professionals and students in Australia and New Zealand.

The event commenced on the 7^th August 2009 with an opening dinner at the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre. A dialog session was also held for those who were interested to interact with The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

On the 8^th August 2009, all UMNO Clubs in Australia and New Zealand were involved in a closed meeting session with YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to discuss about problems which Malaysian students encounter in each of the regions in Australia and New Zealand. Solutions were proposed and the solutions were also noted by YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to be analyzed and considered.

On the 9^th August 2009, the TSM Charity Golf ended with a Grand Dinner with Malaysian students at the Hyatt Hotel.

UMNO Auckland would like to express our gratitude to YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his concern and the opportunity for us to voice the hopes and concerns of Malaysian students in Auckland.

3^rd August 2009 – UMNO Auckland comittees were delighted to meet YB Datuk Ronald Kiandee, Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat who is also the Member of Parliament from Beluran, Sabah during his short visit to New Zealand.

We were informed that Datuk and delegates, which also included YB Dato’ Noraini Ahmad, former Puteri UMNO Chief were on a visit in response to an earlier visit by New Zealand’s representatives with the objective of strengthening the relationship between Malaysia and New Zealand.

Datuk and his delegates were scheduled to fly to Wellington on the 5^th of August in order to meet New Zealand government officials at the New Zealand Parliament Building.

We would like to express our gratitude to Datuk and his delegates for having us that night.
